Building a Neighborhood-Driven Brand (Local Bakery)

Designed a brand identity and packaging for a local bakery—elevated, approachable, with a slightly quirky feel.

Simple, consistent, and instantly recognizable—carried from product to local marketing to storefront.

The Problem

A new bakery needed a brand from the ground up—one that felt sophisticated to its name, but still approachable and a little quirky. The goal was to create something that stood out in a crowded local market while resonating with the character of the neighborhood and the people in it.

As both the owner and designer of the bakery, I was able to shape the brand holistically across product, packaging, and customer experience.

What I Did

  • Designed a logo and core brand identity

  • Developed a system for typography, color, and layout

  • Created packaging and apparel that balanced brand expression with real-world usability

  • Established patterns and guidelines for consistent use across materials

A structured mark with just enough personality to feel a little unexpected.

Key Decisions

  • Balanced sophistication with approachability and a touch of quirkiness to avoid feeling overly polished or overly traditional

  • Used typography and layout to create personality, reflecting the character of the neighborhood

  • Designed packaging for everyday use, ensuring it felt accessible and functional

  • Built a flexible system that could scale across products and future needs

Constraints

Worked within real-world constraints including limited storage space, packaging formats, printing limitations, and cost—while still aiming to create something distinctive and cohesive.

A flexible system designed to work across packaging, print, and in-store materials.

What Changed

The bakery developed a clear and recognizable brand identity, with packaging and materials that felt intentional, cohesive, and reflective of the neighborhood’s personality.

Hindsight

With more time, I’d expand the system further across digital touchpoints and explore additional packaging variations to support future growth.
